AIC lecturer mentors women building careers in technology
Principal Lecturer Lorraine Skelton is once again helping support women working in New Zealand's technology sector as a facilitator in the Women in Tech NZ Mentoring Circles programme.
The mentoring circles bring together experienced technology leaders and women at different stages of their careers for monthly meetings in Auckland. The programme is about making a welcoming, trusted space for shared reflection, peer support, and learning from each other.
Lorraine is co-facilitating a mentoring circle focused on women who want to continue developing their technical careers.
This year's group includes software engineers, full-stack and front-end developers, integration engineers, senior engineers, and professionals who have successfully transitioned into technology careers from other industries.
As a Principal Lecturer at Auckland International Campus, Lorraine mentors and researches at the leadership level, with expertise in strategy, innovation, organisational transformation, and emerging technologies.
Her co-facilitator Cecily Barba is a senior software engineer and architect in the Auckland area with a decade of experience building software.
Since becoming involved in the programme, Lorraine has also welcomed AIC lecturers Shikha Shethia and Nishika Jayasinghe into the mentoring circles as mentees, with the hope they will one day become mentors themselves.
