AIC researchers publish AI innovation study

Two Auckland International Campus researchers have had their study on AI capability and digital agility published in the highly regarded Thunderbird International Business Review.

Applied Management Principal Lecturer Bing Dai and Senior Lecturer Jimmy Sun have been involved in the research project in collaboration with scholars from RMIT University (Australia) and the University of North Florida (USA).

The title of their article is “AI Capability, Digital Agility, and Strategic Innovation: The Moderating Role of Government Intervention and Competitive Intensity.”

The study investigates how AI capability and digital agility shape strategic innovation in firms, and how government intervention and competitive intensity condition these effects.

Using survey data from 310 Chinese firms that have adopted AI technologies, the researchers found that stronger AI capability and digital agility both support greater strategic innovation, while government support and competitive markets further strengthen these relationships.

The findings highlight how internal digital strengths and external business conditions work together to drive innovation.

Thunderbird International Business Review is an SJR Q1 journal and a B-ranked journal on the ABDC list.

The research team gratefully acknowledges the funding support provided by the AIC Research Office, as well as the encouragement from Academic Director Russell Harray and Research Director Dr Farhad Mehdipour.
